# Safari Redirects in 1Extn

Documentation last reviewed: 2026-10-02

1Extn redirects can automatically send a matching Safari URL to another URL selected by the user. They are useful when a person regularly prefers a different version, domain, or destination for a website.

## What a Redirect Does

A redirect contains a source to match and a destination to open. When Safari encounters a matching address and the redirect is enabled, 1Extn sends the page to the configured destination.

Redirects can be enabled or disabled individually, allowing users to keep saved rules without applying all of them at once.

## Example Uses

- Open a preferred version of a website automatically.
- Replace a mobile website address with its desktop equivalent.
- Send an alternate domain to a preferred domain.
- Move from an old website address to a newer destination.
- Standardize frequently visited links around a preferred URL.

## Redirects Compared with Scripts

Use a redirect when the goal is to replace one URL with another URL. Use a personal webpage tool or script when the goal is to change the content, appearance, or behavior of the page itself.

## Safety and Reliability

- Confirm the destination before enabling a redirect.
- Use trusted HTTPS destinations when available.
- Avoid rules that send two addresses back to each other, because they can create a redirect loop.
- Make matching rules specific enough to avoid redirecting unrelated pages.
- Disable or edit a redirect if a website changes its address structure.

## Platform Availability

Redirect availability and behavior are presented according to the user's device and Safari environment. Feature availability may differ across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
